Operation Distraction

Written by Brett T.

This day and age, life has become so busy. From kid sports to getting together with friends, or just events that we “have” to attend. Seems like growing up things were much different and what I thought at the time was a boring life, I’d give anything to get that pace of life back. Even in every second of down time we tie ourselves up with Social Media, television, or something else we could use our time on more wisely.

Psalm 46:10 states, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

If you have noticed, when you go to a restaurant or have dinner somewhere, kids are eating with one hand and texting or doing something on their phone in the other hand. Guess what, kids are imitators of us as adults. As an older song once said, “How do you think they learn to walk, talk and eat?”

In this day and age we have a spiritual death occurring, where we find ourselves wanting to entertain ourselves instead of using what free time we have to draw closer to God. Instead of using that free time to read and search God’s Word, we are searching entertainment on Social Media or the web or television. When’s the last time you spent more time with God rather than some type of entertainment?

I heard a thought on this which made sense to me. Are we seeking entertainment over God in hopes to keep the dark, murky spots in our lives hidden? Anything from anxiety, depression or just something you are struggling over in your life and not wanting to deal with at the moment?

1 Peter 5:7 states we need to be “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you”.

Take time out of this busy life and talk to God through prayer and scripture, rather than worldly entertainment and you will find yourself refreshed and finding answers you have been searching for. READ.
