The Broken-hearted

Written by Kathy T.

On a beach, I search for shells. I notice the majority of them are broken; only pieces of the original shell. The waves have been too rough for them to withstand. Even a whole shell has small breaks or chips on them.

God has formed us and we have all we need to be whole. The trials of life can become too strong for us and weaken or even break us. God can ‘put back together’. But, we refuse to ask. We may feel like we are bothering Him; or, that we are capable of fixing ourselves.

Usually, it’s our spirit, not our physical bodies, that get broken. We all have weaknesses! We may have a trusted friend that we can talk to about our struggles. True friends they will not only give us their care and advice, but; they will point us to God for the real help. They will help us pray.

As humans, we may look at another Christian struggling and wonder how they could be so weak. We don’t struggle with that particular thing. But, in reality; we have weaknesses they have no struggle with. We need to try to see people through the eyes of God and not judge them or gossip about them. We need to hold them up in prayer and be a help.

But, the majority of people in the world do not know Christ. Multitudes of them are broken. Most without repair because they don’t believe in God or know He loves them. The old adage ‘To some, we (Christians) are the only Bible they will ever see’ is so true. Let’s be that example; imperfect but sincere. A song, ‘The Broken Ones’ has these words: “She loves the broken ones, the ones that need a little patching up. She sees the diamond in the rough & makes it shine like new. It really doesn’t take that much, a willing heart & a tender touch. If everybody loves like she does, there’d be a lot less broken ones.”

Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

Let’s listen to Bro. Bob’s theme for the year “We are more than Conquerors in Christ” and strive to live it. Just as the waves spit out broken shells….Life spits out hurting people we may be able to help.
