The Secret Place

Written by Kathy T.

I like to keep my house clean. But, honestly, most of the time it is just kept straightened up. I decided a while back to deep clean. I started in our master bathroom. Usually, it’s only Bob and I in there. No one else sees it. Well, I spent hours cleaning that little room. There was dust and hair built up in places like behind the radio, behind the heater and on top of the medicine cabinet. I cleaned out drawers and cabinets and got rid of a lot of stuff I didn’t ‘need’. It brought to mind a song that LaDonna Chapman sings, ‘The Secret Place’.

“My heart is like a house. One day I let my Savior in. There are many rooms where we would visit now and then. Then one day, He saw ‘that’ door. I knew the day had come too soon. I said ‘Jesus, I’m not ready for us to visit in that room. Cause that’s a place in my heart where even I don’t go. I have some things hidden there I don’t want anyone to know’. But, He handed me the key with tears of love on His face. He said, ‘I want to make you clean. Let me go in your secret place’. So, I opened up the door and as the two of us walked in, I was so ashamed. His light revealed my hidden sin. When I think about that room now; I’m not afraid anymore. Cause I know my hidden sin no longer hides behind that door. I let Him in my secret place and He made me clean. Is there a place in your heart where even you won’t go?”

We all have faults and things we don’t want anyone else to see. Guess what? Jesus already knows. Just like my bathroom…if we let it go…things will just keep building up. We need to check out those areas of our life honestly and let Jesus clean it up. The longer we let a sin go…the harder it is to let it go. 1st John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Let’s let Jesus clean our spiritual life up. It’s easier to work at keeping our lives clean than to have to clean it up after we have let it go.
