Iron Sharpeneth Iron

Written by: Ben T.

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Proverbs 27:17

This is one of those verses that is so vital to the Christian faith.; the way it can strengthen another brother or sister and keep the fort (church) strong and focused when the enemy advances. But misused, it can cause division and weakening of the troops (laymen).

It’s not easy to reach out, encourage, edify. It takes certain patience. It may take more time than you want to give; long hours dealing and helping. It requires, in the Christian faith, more than just helping those you like or care for. But actually caring enough for someone to get past your pride. You see, it’s your spiritual brother or sister, not just another passing Joe. And you may need to listen more than talk. For how else can you understand where they are at?

Iron sharpeneth iron, and we should strengthen one another. And in doing so, we find a pleasure in that it isn’t about us, but a good work in strengthening the Kingdom. And what better joy is there than that? In helping to sharpen the iron of another, we find that God sharpens us. And in that I say, “Amen.”
